Cultivated Vulnerability: Time to throw off that comfort blanket!
The paradox of modern convenience
We live in the ultimate land of plenty. Thanks to fast tech and an economy that runs on convenience, we no longer have to fight for anything; everything is taken care of at the push of a button.
But this unprecedented ease has a downside: we have spoiled ourselves into a society full of quick stress. In the workplace, this is reflected in teams that have become unaccustomed to friction. Is a project running into difficulties? Everyone immediately gets stressed, or there is a reflexive call for HR or the manager to resolve the issue. The result is a paradoxical vulnerability : the more we try to shield our work from risks, the less resilient teams become when things go wrong.
The necessity of this training
You want agile, independent teams that thrive in change. But as long as the blanket of comfort remains intact, they fall into the victim role at the first sign of adversity.
A traditional off-site meeting in a luxury hotel with Post-its and a speaker changes nothing about those deeper-seated behavioral patterns. Back at the office, everyone falls back into the old rut.
Get rid of the office cocoon: If we really want to make teams sharp, self-reliant, and cohesive, we really have to take them out for a while.
No military drill: No dull exhaustion, but a smartly designed experience that chafes where it needs to and connects where it can.
